February 26: San Benancio Middle School Fold Fest-- Kids Who Care. Annie'sBlankets congratulates the students at San Benancio Middle School for completion of their first Fold Fest. Annie'sBlankets volunteer Jocelyn Douglas worked with Elizabeth Mustoe to organize this special event. Ms. Mustoe's daughter, Mollie, recruited twenty friends to bundle the bedding donated by Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. Students from York School also offered gently-used beeding. Together the gang, pictured below, folded a whopping 385 items in just under two hours! Watch for pictures of the Fold Fest in Off 68 Magazine. Jocelyn's dog, Belle, seen with the kids, whom the Douglas family adopted from the SPCA, supervised the event, tested a few of the blankets, and gave her two paws up approval. All the bundles have received new life at the Salinas Animal Shelter, Monterey County Animal Services Center, the SPCA of Monterey County, and All Creatures Great and Small. Great work, Jocelyn, Gracie, Liz, Mollie, and the whole San Benancio community!

January 23: Ridgemark Farm Fold Fest. Thanks to Ridgemark Farm riders and their family members for hosting the first Fold Fest at the Watsonville ranch. Taking advantage of a rare sunny Saturday (and one that even brought out some sluggish wasps!), the horse enthusiasts seen below took time between lessons to fold 77 blankets and towels. All the bundles went directly to the Animal Services Agency in Watsonville, where the staff was thrilled to get an influx of warm, dry bedding. Thank you, Ridgemark Farm!

- Solano County SPCA: Blankets and towels collected in Santa Cruz County were delivered to this Vacaville shelter in December 2009, following an influx of puppies confiscated in a pet-store/private-home animal control seizure.
