Annie'sBlankets FAQs
Who is Annie?
• Annie was the childhood dog of Annie'sBlankets'
founder, Edie Achterman. The name is an homage to her!
What types of bedding does
Annie’sBlankets accept?
• Blankets and towels are best. Fleece throws,
pet beds and baby blankets work wonderfully, as well. Also, fuzzy toilet lid covers and flat flannel sheets are fine.
Is there any type of bedding
that Annie’sBlankets does not accept?
- For the most part, shelters and clinics do not
want bed sheets—they are not absorbent enough and
do not stand up to repeated laundering. However, flat flannel sheets are soft and absorbent, so those do work well.
- Anything too bulky is difficult for the shelter
staffs to manage; this precludes comforters, bedspreads,
heavy area rugs, queen or king-sized quilts.
- Please, no down pillows or down-filled comforters... feathers everywhere!
- No human pillows, at all... we cannot even pass these along to other charities.
- No clothes, please!
What else can we donate to
the collection barrels?
• Think soft and washable: items that can soften
the bottoms of crates and kennels, wipe down medical equipment
and keep animals’ noses, paws and ears dry.
- Collars, leashes and dog/cat-food bowls are also welcome.
Does Annie’sBlankets
accept synthetic blankets?
• Yes. Again, if it’s easy to manage and
will hold up to repeated washings.
Where does the bedding go
after we donate it to Annie’sBlankets?
• Once it’s washed, counted, tagged and
bundled, the bedding is donated, on a rotating basis, to
Bay Area animal shelters and clinics. We try to keep blankets
and towels in their county of origin; for example, bedding
donated to Collier Feed may get donated to the City of Salinas
Animal Services Center, while bundles brought to Peet’s
Coffee & Tea in Los Gatos will end up at the Humane
Society of Silicon Valley. However, if Annie’sBlankets
receives an urgent request for bedding we try to comply,
as well as keeping a certain percentage of bundles set aside
for emergency outreach.
Is there anything else we
can bring to an Annie'sBlankets collection barrel?
• Actually, yes! If you have dog food bowls, old
pet toys, or even cat scratch-towers (if not too large)
still in "gently used" condition, feel free to
donate those, as well. We deliver these treats along with
the bundled bedding. Please no pet food, however.
How else can we help Annie’sBlankets?
• It takes a village to raise a nonprofit! To
donate bedding, time or financial aid, visit www.anniesblankets.org.
• Thank you for helping Annie’sBlankets give
new life to old blankets and towels!
